Founded by Colin Bradbury in 1997, Lazarus Edition is making available masterpieces of nineteenth century wind music long since out of print.
Named after the great Victorian clarinettist Henry Lazarus, the original purpose of the Edition was to publish some of the works for clarinet and piano which Colin Bradbury and Oliver Davies have researched throughout Europe and recorded for Clarinet Classics and Divine Art. These range from Italian operatic fantasies to European drawing room pieces, all of them works which were favourites in Victorian and Edwardian England. Fifteen of these have now appeared in Lazarus Edition, together with two songs with clarinet obbligato by Macfarren and one by Andrea Spaeth. In addition, we have made available Arthur Campbell’s masterly arrangement for wind nonet of Sullivan’s overture to Iolanthe.
Autumn will see the first flute piece to appear in Lazarus Edition. The Suite for Flute and Pianoforte by Edward German was written for his friend the virtuoso flautist Frederick Griffith, and it had a rapturous reception from critics and public alike at its first performance, with German at the piano, in 1892. They went on to play it together on numerous occasions thereafter. More works for flute are in hand.
Our music is printed in 12" x 9" format by Halstan and Co., the leading music engravers and printers in the United Kingdom. It is available from good music shops or direct from Lazarus Edition. Orders from outside the United Kingdom are welcome, and payment is accepted in any currency via PayPal.
